John McCain can definitely win and I think he has a decent chance. McCain is a front runner for the Republican nomination and may have the best credentials to win the nomination. McCain's views on most social issues jive with those of many Republicans. He fits the traditional mold much more than Rudy Giuliani who could be considered a social liberal. Still McCain isn't a shoe in for the nomination.
McCain may face problems because of his stance on Iraq. McCain has been a long time advocate of a troop increase in Iraq and McCain wanted even more troops than President Bush's recent increase. If the troop surge doesn't do anything to help the situation in Iraq, McCain could be in trouble.
If McCain wins the Republican nomination he will have a good shot at winning the Presidency. He has plenty of experience and this should be an advantage against most of the Democratic candidates. His chances may depend on the outcome of Iraq. If things get better I think he beats any of the Democrats. If they get worse he probably can't win. It is hard to tell how much of McCain's chance depends on Iraq.
