2007 Louisiana Election for Governor
Democratic Governor Kathleen Blanco has decided not to run for reelection. Blanco became infamous after Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana in 2005. Many people questioned her leadership and her approval ratings suffered dramatically.
Former Democratic U.S. Senator from Louisiana John Breaux has decided not to enter the race. Breaux created a residency problem for himself as he has moved to Maryland and registered as a voter there in 2005. Louisiana Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu was considering entering the race but has now decided to seek re-election to his current position. Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell is running for Governor and will likely be the Democratic nominee.
On the Republican side, U.S. Congressman from the 1st District of Louisiana Bobby Jindal is running for his party's nomination. With Breaux out of the race Jandal is the clear front runner.
